WOODS DANBURY Danny Phillip Woods, 79, of Danbury went home peacefully on May 20, 2024. Danny was born on July 12, 1944, in Winston Salem, NC, to Zack and Irene Woods (Dillon). Danny grew up in a farming family and inherited a love of the land, tobacco, and gardens. As a young boy, he plowed with a mule and was a close companion to his “Grammar” Woods and Pap Woods. Danny graduated from Lawsonville School and attended college at Appalachian State University for a brief period. While he missed Danbury too much to stay and complete his education, he always reminded his children of the importance of education and was a tremendous influence on their choices. Danny started a career in trucking with Hennis Freight Lines in Winston Salem, working his way up from the dock to a terminal manager, and eventually retiring from Watkins Motor Lines in Kernersville. He spent 40 years in the business and was well regarded as a person who treated customers, drivers, and employees well. His work ethic and his commitment to his employer were unmatched, and he routinely expressed gratitude for the companies he served. In 1968, Danny married his lifelong partner and best friend, Barbara Anderson. They went on to have 57 years of adventures. They purchased his Grandpa and Grandma Dillon’s farm and raised numerous tobacco crops. In his latter years when he quit raising tobacco, he channeled that energy into huge gardens that generated amazing vegetables that he shared freely with friends and family. He also enjoyed riding horses, golfing, and relaxing and fishing at Carolina Beach. Danny was a good neighbor and friend, but more than anything else, he was a devoted father and family man who put the needs of his family before his own. Danny was preceded in death by his parents Zack and Irene, his beloved younger brother Eric, and his son-in-law, Jim. He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Woods (Anderson); his son Darren Woods (Lisa); his daughter Jami Woods; his son Joel Woods; his grandsons Jake Woods, Gabriel Oerter, and Landon Woods; and his sister Carol Kenney. Kinzi, the family fur buddy, was a constant companion, especially during his final week. There will be a 1:00 pm graveside service held on Friday, May 24, 2024, at Northview Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Rodney Matthews officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 24, 2024, from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm at Burroughs Funeral Home.
