GREENE Donald Ray Greene, born on December 18, 1937, in Walnut Cove, North Carolina, passed away on October 1, 2024, in Lancaster, Ohio. A proud Air Force veteran, Donald dedicated his life to service before embarking on a successful career in the trucking industry. Donald had a passion for life that was evident in his many hobbies. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, gardening, and working on various home projects. His love for building model planes and tinkering with computers showcased his inventive spirit. Donald was known for his warm sense of humor, always ready to share a good joke and make those around him laugh. Donald adored his pets, particularly his cat named George, and he had a special fondness for dogs. His love for home cooking extended to his favorite dishes, especially fish, sweets like chocolate, and coconut pie. He found joy in listening to music, particularly country and gospel, often enjoying the sounds of The Zac Brown Band and various artists. Donald saw the beauty in everything and enjoyed capturing it through his love of photography. In addition to his loving parents, William Mckeever and Lillian Mae Brown Greene, Donald was preceded in death by his grandson, Kyle Wallace; siblings, Delphine Greene, William “Buster” Greene, Faye Caddell, Jimmie Greene, June Bullins, and Carroll Greene. Family was at the heart of Donald’s life. He is survived by his two daughters, Gwendolyn Elaine Wallace and Vicki Lynn Lerma; his cherished grandchildren, Kimberly Kuhlemeier, Laurie Clark, Kevin Wallace, Leah Pence, Tabitha Lerma, and Elizabeth Lerma. He was also a proud grandfather to 14 great-grandchildren, including Brenya and Cohen Booth, Christopher and Chandler Kuhlemeier, Lillian, Alexander, and Annabelle Clark, Dawson and Mattie Wallace, Gracie McBride, Lilly and Elijah Pence, and Layanna and Demarcus “Jr.” Tyler; Donald was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews and maintained close relationships with his cousins and friends. Donald Ray Greene will be remembered for his laughter, dedication to family, and the joy he brought to all who knew him. His favorite place was always home, where his spirit will continue to resonate with those he loved. There will be an 11:00 am funeral service held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Burroughs Chapel with Pastor Wayne Marion officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory, Walkertown with Military Honors. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 6-8 pm at Burroughs Funeral Home.
