Frances “Pauline” Marshall Carmichael March 22, 1933 – August 12, 2023 CARMICHAEL WALNUT COVE Mrs. Frances “Pauline” Marshall Carmichael, 90 years of age, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, August 12, 2023. Pauline was born on March 22, 1933, in Stokes County to the late Howard and Ida Lowe Gerry Marshall. She was born and raised in Walnut Cove, where she graduated first in her class from Walnut Cove High School. Pauline then pursued a career with Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Technologies. Her career spanned 40 plus years, where she held positions as a Technical Editor, Payroll Analyst, and a Supply Chain Analyst to name a few. While at AT&T, she joined the AT&T Telephone Pioneers and remained a member throughout her lifetime. Pauline completed her career with Wachovia working as a Payroll Specialist. If asked, however, Pauline would tell you that her greatest accomplishment and legacy was her family. She was married to Wren Carmichael for 58 years and 3 months before his passing in 2015. Together, they built a family of 5 children: Jeanne Carmichael Wall (Bobby); Melissa Carmichael Belcher (Robert); Penny Christine Carmichael; James Wren Carmichael (Christine); Sharon Carmichael Belcher (John, preceded in death). In addition, there are 10 grandchildren, Nicholas (Kristen), Zack, Ian (Anissa), Caitlin (Kevin), Elliott, Caroline (preceded in death), Joshua (Danielle), Chandler, Molly, and Camden as well as 6 great grandchildren: Andersen, Nicholas, Eden, Kyle, Adeline, and Hattie. Pauline had 3 sisters: Mary Marshall Coe (preceded in death), Annie Marshall Rogers (preceded in death), and Ida Mae “Jitterbug” Marshall. Lastly, a special mention of Melody Sprinkle, Priscilla Moore, and Suzanne Faulk who became a part of the family as they lovingly assisted in the care of Pauline (Mrs. P). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Salem Chapel Christian Church in Walnut Cove where Pauline was a lifelong member and the church she loved. Rev. George Murray will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, from 6 – 8 pm at Burroughs Funeral Home in Walnut Cove. After the service on Thursday, the family will receive friends in the Church Fellowship Hall, where fellow Church members and friends will have food prepared to share in Pauline’s honor.
