BIBEY WALNUT COVE When I was born I cried and everyone smiled, but when I died everyone cried and I smiled. On Saturday evening, April 26, 2025 God said “Your work is done,” and called his beloved Joan home. She departed her earthly home surrounded by her loving family and friends. Joan was a cherished mother, Nanny, aunt, sister and friend. She was a woman of devout faith who enjoyed sharing her love of Jesus with anyone and everyone who would listen. As a faithful member of Willow Oak Baptist Church she served the Lord in a variety of ways. Her greatest joy was singing with the gospel group “Mothers and Daughters.” This was special to her because she was able to use her beautiful alto voice alongside her beloved daughter and her lifelong friends, Linda and Traci, who became like family. Joan worked for 27 years in the Stokes County School System where she loved and nurtured many, many, little ones, who still remember her fondly. She also served for many years in the Ladies Auxiliary and was a true gem of a woman, who loved reading, Hallmark movies, taking trips, her church family, shopping at Hamrick’s, fried apples, stewed potatoes, anything sweet and going out every Saturday night for dinner and shopping with her faithful friends, Kathy, Cathy Lovette and Ra! What good times! Joan had a wonderful dry sense of humor and would make you laugh until you cried which she did quite often! She loved her family fiercely! Words could not describe how much she adored her grandbabies or the joy they brought to her life. Joan enjoyed the simple times with them, the many heartfelt conversations in the car, traveling to and from school or going to Chick-Fil-A for a frosted lemonade. Those who knew her were truly blessed that God had placed her in their lives. The stories would be endless about how Joan had touched their lies. One thing is certain, a glorious reunion in Heaven is coming one day. Heaven just got a little sweeter! We love you, Joan! Until we meet again… Joan is survived by her devoted daughter, Traci Golden (Nick), her precious granddaughters, Olivia (Skylar) and Madelyn, her devoted sister and best friend Kathy Throckmorton, her beloved brothers Darrell Throckmorton (Marna) and Ken Throckmorton (Dale), and her very loved nephews Eric Throckmorton and Shane Throckmorton. Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dale Craig (Traci’s father) who went to Heaven far too soon. Beloved husband Billy Joe Flinchum with whom she had many wonderful years and who was a wonderful dad to Traci. Joan was also preceded in death by her husband Herman Bibey. They married later in life but were blessed to have several happy years together. There will be a 3:00pm Funeral Service held on Thursday May 1, 2025 at Willow Oak Baptist Church with Pastor Cliff Willis and Rev. Ricky Craig officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00pm on Thursday May 1, 2025 at Willow Oak Baptist Church and other times at her home.
