Joe Gray Tuttle

Joe Gray Tuttle, 82, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday March 19, 2023 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Joe was born on June 7, 1940 in Rural Hall, North Carolina to the late Outher Gray Tuttle & Janie Minerva Smith Tuttle. Along with his parents, Joe is reunited in passing with his dear friend, Becky Middleton. Joe was a hardworking man with a heart of gold. Joe was called to a life of civil service. That service began with his joining Rural Hall Volunteer Fire Dept. Joe’s passion for giving back to his community led him to be fundamental in the creation of the Junior Fire Fighter Program. Joe also worked for Fire and Emergency Services in Forsyth County, NC. Joe went on to join the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department. During his time with the department, he served in many capacities and earned his way from Patrol Deputy to Assistant Sheriff . Joe and Ricky Plunkett were the top Fire and Arson Investigation Team in North Carolina. In his years at FCSD he was known as one of the fairest and most honest lawmen. Following Joe’s well-deserved retirement and relocation to Myrtle Beach, he was finally able to enjoy his free time, although free time meant working or tinkering on some project for someone else or himself. Joe enjoyed time spent basking in the sun and combing the beach for, “treasures.” He was a proud member of the Ocean Lakes Campground Community, where he also worked for Security in his first years there. Above all else, Joe loved his family with his whole heart, especially his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They always come first in his life. He will be deeply missed. Left to cherish Joe’s memory are his devoted daughter, Amanda T. Webster and husband, John of Walkertown, NC; granddaughters, Katie Webster Blakley and husband, Mike of Walkertown, NC & Betsy Jane Webster-Jones and husband Matt of Walkertown, NC; great-grandchildren, Parker & Chance Blakley and Wyatt Webster; his beloved k9 daughter, Sandy Lee Tutt; his family by choice, Keith & Valerie Dodson, Annabelle & Presley and Brandon Dodson, Eric Stewart and Stacy, and Cody, dearest and devoted friend, Eileen Edwards; as well as a multitude of supportive friends and neighbors. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 7:00 pm at Burroughs Chapel. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 21, 2023, from 6-7 pm at Burroughs Funeral Home.
