BROWN WALNUT COVE I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith, Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing. II Tim. 4:7,8. On Sunday, April 6, 2025, at 7:24 am, Granny Brown received the call she had been waiting for, the call to come home. Heaven’s gain but our loss. Joyce Ethel Fultz Brown was born on September 28, 1944, in Patrick County, VA to the late William Pearson and Kittula Cricket Duncan Fultz. She retired from Cross Creek Apparel and was a member of Shining Light Baptist Church. Her joy was found in her love for her Savior and her love for her family. Some of her most enjoyable times were spent on beach trips with her mom and sisters and in those with her grandchildren. She was a simple lady who cared well for her family. She enjoyed cooking, taking care of her home, and babysitting her granddaughters, where she’d often spend many hours outside reading a book with them and playing games. She continued to cherish time spent with them as they grew into adults and then time with her great grandchildren, whom she adored. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, James Monroe Brown; grandson, Sam Brown; 6 brothers, Henry, Odell, Frank, Carlos, Bobby, and Edgar Fultz; and 3 sisters, Wanda Duggins, Betty Hanes, and Lottie Fultz. She is survived by her son, Mark W. Brown (Traci); 2 granddaughters, Meghan Gordy (Brandon) and McKenze Harris (Jacob); 2 great grandchildren, Josiah and Amelia Harris; 2 more great grandchildren expected in October and November; 3 sisters, Carol Inman, Ann Borton (Tony), Sue Fultz; 3 brothers, Billy, Roger, and Arles Fultz; and many nieces and nephews. There will be a 11:00 am funeral service held on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Burroughs Chapel with Brother Jacob Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 6-8 pm at Burroughs Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son, Mark Brown. The family would like to thank the special caregivers she had over the years at Walnut Cove Health & Rehab along with Trellis Supportive Care of Stokes, and a very special roommate, CeCe Sowers, who we grew to think of as family. Also, to her sister, Carol Inman who gave to selflessly of herself to care for Joyce for many years. We could never repay you for your love and sacrifice.
