February 21, 1936 - August 28, 2021
James (Jim) Willie Clark, 85, passed away on Saturday morning, August 28, 2021 at Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community. Jim was born on February 21, 1936 in Forsyth County, NC to the late John Willie Clark (Grandpa Willie) and Ethel Clark (Mama Clark). Jim served in the U.S. Army and graduated from NC State University. Jim loved his Wolfpack football and basketball teams…especially the Norm Sloan and Jimmy V years. Jim loved to play golf and taught his sons to play, and he enjoyed watching golf tournaments on television, especially during the Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer era. Jim worked for RJ Reynolds in Winston-Salem, NC for numerous years in the data processing/IT department. Jim also raised tobacco in Forsyth County. Jim was thrifty and he was an excellent provider for his family helping Ben and Clay go to college. He cared about helping others. He taught his sons how to make repairs and build things while learning to work in the tobacco fields. Jim loved to sing from the church pew at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and later at Arbor Acres he sang with great pride as a participant in the group named Sharps and Flats. Late in life he and the love of his life Martha got to travel a bit out west with their friends Phil and Wilma Fontaine. Jim loved talking about those trips. Jim was a big believer in the future of electric cars. In his final days, Jim would often discuss solar panels, wind farms and electric vehicles. Jim would laugh until he cried at Clay’s stories and tall tales. He loved the staff at Arbor Acres, and they took such great care of Jim and Martha. Jim is preceded in death by his wife Martha Clark, son, Ben Clark, sisters Virginia Hall and Betty Ann Scott. Jim had to grieve the loss of his son and wife in recent months. Jim and Martha had been married for 49 years when she passed away in February 2021. Jim is survived by son Clay Peddycord (Betsy), one grandchild, Beth Peddycord, many nieces and nephews, and many special friends at St. Mark United Methodist Church. There will be a 2:00 PM graveside service held on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at St. Mark United Methodist Church Cemetery at 9930 Baux Mountain Road Germanton, NC with Pastor Wesley Bullins officiating. There will be no formal visitation. Social distancing guidelines will be observed, and facial coverings are required.
