Janice Elaine Martin Neal Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

NEAL WINSTON SALEM After a very long battle with COPD, Janice (Jan) Elaine Martin Neal “Peaches”, 80, passed away quietly at Trellis Supportive Care on May 21, 2022. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew her, especially her children. Jan was born on December 13, 1941, in Slab Fork, WV to Herman Daniel Martin and Juanita Marie Gautier Martin Hall. Jan (family called her peaches) was a mom. She always encouraged her children to “do what they love, love what they do”. She taught her children to be kind and care about others. Jan loved her children with all her heart and soul. She spent most of her time tending to her family and their friends. Many of our childhood friends and neighborhood children all called her mom. She was everyone’s “go to”, and she would not have had it any other way. She worked part time in a gift shop, book store, later working in the office at the Elks Club, where she met her best friend, Sharon Beck. They were friends and had many adventures and she is remembered fondly. Jan was an avid reader; Jan Karon, and Fannie Flagg were her favorites. She loved to feed the hummingbirds and enjoyed tending to her plants. She spent much of her earlier years camping, hiking, and being outside with the family. Jan loved the outdoors and “being in the trees”. She spent many hours in the hammock reading and singing with her grandson’s, Aaron and Keegan. She taught us all about the power of laughter. Jan was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her mother, Juanita Marie Gautier Martin Hall; daughter, Jodi Marie (Neal) Manuel Wilhelm and husband Jamie of Germanton; son, Jay Scott Neal and wife Claudia Rios Neal of Ocracoke Island, NC; 4 grandsons, Aaron M. Manuel of Hickory, NC, Keegan S. Neal of Sprint, TX, Nicolas R. Neal of Ocracoke, NC, and Sabastian R. Neal of Ocracoke, NC; her half brothers and sisters, Frank Martin (Dawn) of Winston Salem, NC, Vickie Pachuta (John) of Beckley, WV, Warren Martin of Winston Salem, NC, and Brenda (Hall) Gomez-Fuentes of Winston Salem, NC; multiple nephews; and a niece. There will be a 2:30 pm gathering held on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at Burroughs Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.burroughsfuneralhome.com.
