Walter Edward Rierson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

RIERSON GERMANTON Walter Edward Rierson, 84, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday evening, May 26, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Walt also known as “Gummy” was born in Stokes County, NC to the late George Edward and Gladys Mabe Rierson. He was retired from the City of Winston Salem with 30 years of service and was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church where he faithfully drove a bus route for over 30 years. Gummy loved golfing, fishing, mowing, and eating at Little Creek Diner. He was a hard worker who loved his family dearly. In addition to his parents, Walt is preceded in death by a daughter, Ronda Wilkins; brothers, Johnny Rierson, Robert Rierson and J.D. Rierson, and sisters, Lennis Crews, Laura Bell Brown and Mary Sue Mabe. Gummy is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Peggy Rierson; children, Donald Edward Rierson (Cheryl), and Maryanne Hester; 7 grandchildren, Cody Edward Rierson (Brooke), Cana Fulp (Landon), Zachary Hester, Leanna Hester and Brittany Hester, Jessica Byerly (Preston) and Jordan Wilkins, and 5 great grandchildren, Chloe Rierson, Calina McHone, McCrae Rierson, Jayden Taylor, Katherine Byerly and Baby Fulp who will arrive in October; sisters, Lola Frye (Rick) and Lois Slate (Larry), and son-in-law, Jerry Wilkins. There will a 3:00 pm funeral service held on Sunday, May 29, 2022 at the Burroughs Chapel with Brother Ronald Perkins, Pastor Tracy Collins and Pastor Rick Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at First Baptist Church Cemetery of Walnut Cove. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 pm at Burroughs Funeral Home.
