SCOTT WALNUT COVE James Fredrick Scott, Jr., 60, passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning, March 8, 2025, at his home. His faith has now become sight. James was born on September 11, 1964, in Forsyth County to Freddy Scott and Catherine Bowles. He was the owner and operator of Scotties Muffler Shop and was a master mechanic. For nearly 30 years he could be found daily with greasy hands repairing exhaust systems, first in King, and then in Walnut Cove. In 2019, he consolidated his shops to its current location in Winston Salem. He loved to work and sick days were unheard of. James leaves a legacy of love and mentorship behind. He was a long time Little League Baseball coach, and nothing made him happier than seeing one of his “boys” as the man he inspired him to be. James’ ministry was helping those who were struggling through difficult periods in life. He did this through words and deeds. His generosity was well known, but he never wanted or accepted credit. In 2021, James, along with his beloved wife, Amy completed their mission of visiting all 50 states. James would say Vermont and Maine were his favorite. James and Amy’s first vacation in 1983 was to Gatlinburg, and fittingly their last trip together was back to Gatlinburg this past December. No man ever worked harder than James to provide and give his family all they ever wanted. Of all his accomplishments, none were greater than the life and family he and Amy built and raised. He so many times went without to ensure they had what they needed. He instilled his work ethics in both of his children. His pride and joy were found in his family. James regularly reminded people of that. In every photo that was taken of James, this was confirmed by the smile on his face. James was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and was a previous member of Meadows Baptist Church. He loved good old fashioned preaching and singing, being quick to let you know that he was on the old path. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, BT and Ruth Williams, who raised him to be the man he was. Left to forever cherish his memory, are his wife of 44 years, Amy Tilley Scott; son, Kyle Scott (Brooke); daughter, Sheri Fulk (Chris); 7 grandchildren, Hannah, Dylan, Celia, Maddie, Emma, Livi, and Lily; mother, Catherine Bowles (Ernest); father, Freddy Scott (Karen); half brother, Barney Blackburn (Marjorie); 2 half sisters, Sarah Stanberry (Brian) and Lori Jackson (Ben); step brother, Paul Bowles; a special bonus grandson, Jacob Monday; and his constant companion, Ollie Belle, a sib cockapoo. There will be a 3:00 pm funeral service held on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Burroughs Chapel with Pastor Travis Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Meadows Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 13, 2025, from 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm at Burroughs Funeral Home and other times at his home.
