LEWIS WALNUT COVE Janet Anne Lewis, 67, of Walnut Cove, North Carolina – Born to Anne Lee Fowler and Joel Poe Lewis on Easter Sunday, April 10, 1955, at the Old City Hospital in Winston Salem, North Carolina, passed from this world on Monday, January 23, 2023, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She donated her organs with the hope that she may continue to help someone so there will not be a formal funeral or service. Janet is survived by her sister, Joie Lewis Settle (Randy); her closest friend and fellow chef, Charles Montgomery; along with her dog, Sadie. Also left behind is her life-long friend, David Montgomery; her close friends, Steve and Susan Heath, V.L. and Elizabeth Dehart, Janice Johnson, and Julia Flinchum, Debra and Terry Shelton, Mollie and Terry Hampton, Melinda Turner, Dianna Kiser, Candace Loy, her college friends from UNC-G, Karen (Jon) Fisher, and Cynthia (Steve) Earle), her work family at the Stokes County Government Center and Stokes County DSS; and her numerous cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Joel Todd Lewis; her maternal grandparents, Luther and Etta Fowler; her paternal grandparents, Joel (Ped) and Ada Lewis. Janet loved people and was blessed with each day she woke up and was able to help someone whether it was at her job or cooking for all of the fundraisers. She was best known for her good heart and her love of people; her baked hams; all of those peanut butter delights; peach cobblers; chocolate puddings; cherry yum-yums; pecan pies and the BBQ sauce she made for all of those Montgomery BBQ fundraisers. Janet graduated from South Stokes High School in 1973 and furthered her education at UNC- Greensboro. In the fall of 1977 she began working part time at the Stokes County Board of Elections with her close friend, Elaine Harrell. She began full time with the Child Support Office on March 22, 1978, where she remained for over 44 years. She loved working in the court system and treasured all of the court officials, attorneys, and the law enforcement community that she had the opportunity to work with. A special family friend, C.T. Lasley, wrote a poem that was given to her years ago when he worked for Stokes County. She would like to leave this for everyone: “Friendship is a chain of gold, shaped in God’s all perfect mold. Each link a smile, a laugh, a tear, a touch of the hand, a work of cheer.
