Joanne Roberts Willis

WILLIS MADISON Joanne Roberts Willis, 90, passed away April 7, 2023 at LifeBrite Community Hospital. She was a wonderful Mama, Nannie, and friend to many. She was born in Stokes County on March 22, 1933 to the late Abram Hensey and Beulah Pulliam Roberts. In 1951, at the age of 18, she married Carey Odell Willis. Together, they had four little red-headed children that they raised with discipline, love and laughter. She made their clothes, made lots of special memories and raised them to be kind to others. She was a wonderful Mama to her children and a wonderful Nannie to her grandchildren. A talented pianist, she faithfully served the Lord by playing the piano at Bethesda Methodist Church for over 60 years, and only stopped in the spring of 2020. In addition to her parents, Joanne is preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, and her brother, Larry Roberts. Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Rhonda Fagg (Mark), Richard Willis, Karie Martin (Kevin) and Joell Beth Montgomery (Jimmy); sister-in-law, Bonnie Roberts; four grandchildren, Sunshine Fagg (Casey), Summer May (Randall), Jake Montgomery and Josh Montgomery, and four great grandchildren, Rylie Fagg, RJ May, Luke May and Corben Holman. She also had three special bonus “daughters,” Shelby, Wanda and Kathy. Her lifelong neighbors, Johnny and Mary Vogt, and Ray and Nancy Cassidy, as well as her cousins and all of her Bethesda Church family were very special to her, and her special granddog, Trixie. There will be a 3:00 pm graveside service held on Tuesday April 11, 2023 at Bethesda Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor John Howard officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday April 10, 2023 at Burroughs Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Karie and Kevin Martin. Memorials may be made to the Bethesda Methodist Church General Fund, 1253 Bethesda Church Road Madison, NC 27025.
