WESTMORELAND WALNUT COVE Lenda Lee Wall Westmoreland, 88, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 30, 2024, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Burroughs Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Nations officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mark United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Burroughs Funeral Home. Lenda was born on July 27, 1935, in Stokes County to the late Ervin Worth Wall and Annie Maude Carroll Wall. She grew up in the Meadows Community and graduated from Walnut Cove High School in 1953 where she was involved in many school activities, including cheerleading, as well as being the first female bus driver in Stokes County. After graduation she traveled to El Paso, Texas to marry the love of her life, John Durwood Westmoreland, who was stationed at Fort Bliss Army Base. Constant companions and best friends, Lenda and John would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary in June. Upon returning from El Paso, Lenda worked for Hanes Hosiery for nine years and then Barfield Instrument Corporation for 20 years. In her spare time, she loved quilting and handmade crafts. Lenda enjoyed cooking and canning and was known for her “Johnny” pickles. A longtime member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, Lenda served in many capacities including Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, trustee, and choir member. She was also honored as Lay Person of the Year. Lenda served with the Winston-Salem District of the United Methodist Women. As a member of the Walnut Cove Senior Citizens Activity Center, Lenda enjoyed her friends there, singing in the choir, bible class and bingo parties. In addition to her parents, Lenda was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Wall; brother and sister-in-law, Shirley and Peggy Wall; brother-in-law, William Clark; brother in law and sister-in-law, D.E. and Minnie Ruth Westmoreland. Lenda will be cherished and dearly missed by her husband, John Westmoreland and children, Sandra Bridgeman (Jeff) and Todd Westmoreland (Charlotte); grandchildren, Rebekah Summitt (Ryan), Samuel Westmoreland, Leah Dicks (Tim), and Joseph Bridgeman (Anna); great-grandchildren Sloan Summitt, Ruth and Elias Bridgeman and Levi Dicks. She is also survived by her sister, Janie Clark, and her sister-in-law, Mary Lou Wall along with four generations of nieces and nephews. The Westmoreland family wishes to acknowledge and thank the Walnut Ridge Assisted Living community for their kindness, compassion and care of Lenda.
