Pauline Smith Flinchum

FLINCHUM DANBURY Pauline Smith Flinchum, 87, entered into the arms of the Lord on Monday, January 1, 2024, at Forsyth Medical Center surrounded by those who loved her the most. Pauline was born on October 19, 1936, in Stokes County to the late Rufus and Gracie Irene Southern Smith. She was a beloved employee of Stokes Reynolds Hospital for many years, a farmer for many more, an avid reader, and one of the best cooks around. But to her family, she was so much more: mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Pauline will forever be remembered by her infamous “Nana biscuits”, her belief that snuff and granny salve fixed any ailment, her ability to make you eat “just one more bite”, even if you were stuffed, her dislike for commercials and how they interrupted her “stories” on TV, and how she always had snuff (Tube Rose, none of that other stuff) in her mouth and a spit-cup in her hands. But one thing that will always be remembered more than anything else is that her family was the most important thing to her and is what kept her going until her last breath. Her kindness, her loving nature, her love of reading, cooking, and animals, and her fierce stubbornness and her inability to filter her words will live on through her family. In addition to her parents, Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Elder Nathaniel Ray Flinchum; her son, Neil Ray Flinchum; her daughter in law, Kim Martin Flinchum; two sisters, Dorothy S. Lankford and Beulah S. Robbins; and a special friend, Virginia Fulp. She is survived by her two sons, Timmie Lee Flinchum and Mark Edward Flinchum (Wendy); four grandchildren, Cassie Flinchum, Mallory Lovings (Matt), Patrick Flinchum (Cindy), and Kayla Flinchum; six great-grandchildren, Aubrie Lovings, Benjamin Flinchum, Hannah Flinchum, Samantha Flinchum, Elania Morgan, and Gracie Manring; one brother, Joe Smith (Hilda); special niece Sheila Gray; special friends, Roger Fulp, Steve Fulp, and Joe Fulp; and many other nieces, nephews, and friends. She also leaves behind her furry best friend, Buddy Dean, the “fat cat” as she always called him. There will be a 3:00 pm graveside service held on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Hard Bank Cemetery with Elder Jerry Cox officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Burroughs Funeral Home and other times at her son, Mark’s home. The family would like to thank the staff at Forsyth Medical Center for the remarkable care that they provided during Pauline’s final days as it is something that will forever be cherished.
