Ralph Dodson

DODSON DANBURY Mr. Ralph Dodson passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 6, 2023, at the age of 97 surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Dodson was born on July 12, 1925, in Stokes County to the late James “Jim” and Claudia Mabe Dodson. He retired from Hanover Frozen Foods as Warehouse and Shipping Manager, with more than 40 years of service. He loved his family and enjoyed every minute spent with each one. Mr. Dodson was of the Primitive Baptist faith and supported his community faithfully. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dodson was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Martha Isabell Young Dodson; brothers, Tom, Lemmie, and Alvin Dodson; and sisters, Nina Woods, Dorothy Dodson, Stacy Carter, and Tracy Dodson. He is survived by his children, Nancy Ruth Dodson of the home, JR Dodson (Joy) of Walnut Cove, Dean Dodson (Carolyn) and Dennis Dodson (Reba) all of Danbury; brother-in-law, Clyde Young (Jo) of Trinity; six grandchildren, Chris Dodson (Lorri), Amanda Achor (Nick), Sarah Young (Brandon), Tyler Dodson, Austin Dodson (Kristen), Michaela Dodson; eight great grandchildren, Cole, Seth, Barrett, Declan, Gryffin, Cooper Dean, Emery, and Brody; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. There will be a 2:00 pm funeral service held on Monday, January 9, 2023, at Pleasant View Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Rodney Marshall, Elder Clarence Bowman, and Elder Dan Abbott officiating. Burial will follow in the Young Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 pm on Monday, January 9, 2023, at Pleasant View Primitive Baptist Church and other times at the home. Mr. Dodson will lie-in-state at Burroughs Funeral Home on Sunday, January 8, 2023, from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. The family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all staff at Lifebrite Community Hospital for the care and support for Daddy “Papa” Dodson. We would also like to extend our appreciation to the staff of Trellis Supportive Care for their support and assistance in our time of need. To our special caregiver, Terry Fulp, we thank you.
