William Henry "Pete" Brown

“Accept What God Allows” William Henry Brown, affectionately known as “Pete,” was born to Ethel B. Moore on February 12, 1945, and transitioned to his Heavenly Home on December 20, 2024, at his home. A lifelong resident of Walnut Cove, Pete was reared by his maternal grandparents Elder Walter and Mattie Brown. Pete committed his life and love to Christ under the leadership of his grandfather, Elder Walter from a very young age. He graduated from London High School in 1963, and gained employment at Duke Energy, where he began working in the mess hall. He later became the first African American Supervisor at the Belews Creek Plant. After a short time, he was promoted to Building and Grounds Coordinator, a role Pete took immense pride in. Although he was an extremely hard and dedicated worker, he also took the time to enjoy his hobbies, such as hunting, fishing, and golfing, being not only an avid baseball fan, but an amazing baseball player as well. Pete also took special care with his appearance, being noted as a very dapper dresser with his shirts ironed, his pants pressed, and his boots shined to perfection. Even though he loved these hobbies, no hobby took precedence over his love for nature. No one that met Pete could forget his attention to details, or his love and spiritual connection to nature. He lived his life to the fullest and enjoyed taking the time to chat with friends and family; including spending time with his brothers and sisters, playing his Pick 3 and 4’s, and of course finding any reason to be outside. While still employed at Duke Energy, Pete started his own business, Brown’s Mowing and Landscaping Service, he quickly became a well-known and highly respected member of the greater Walnut Cove Community. After over 40 years of service, he retired from Duke Energy in 2003 and focused on running and expanding his landscaping company for another 20 years until his health no longer allowed him to do so. A dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather of a beautiful, blended family. Pete will be greatly missed but surely not forgotten. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Elder Walter (Mattie) Brown, his mother Ethel B. Moore, his deceased siblings Howard Brown, Ralph Moore, Keith Moore, and Sylvia Moore, his first wife Annie (Fulp) Brown, and his granddaughter, Victoria (Tori) Brown. Pete is survived by his loving and extremely supportive wife, Wanda S. Brown of the home, his children William (Tootie) Brown of Walnut Cove, NC, Vincent Brown of Winston-Salem, NC, Tracey (Brown) Edwards of Walnut Cove, NC, Frank L. (Olympia) Strange of Greensboro, NC, and Fonte L. (Jeannetta) Strange of Charlotte, NC, his grandchildren; Cedric Brown of Madison, NC, Ashley Brown of Durham, NC, Brianna Brown of Durham, NC, Kendra Brown of Winston-Salem, Vincent (VJ) Brown of Greensboro, NC, Christian (Alex) Edwards of High Point, NC, Mattie Edwards of Walnut Cove, NC, Khyah (Daylen) Peebles of Greensboro, NC, Tamia A. Phillips of Greensboro, NC, Frank “LeVar” Strange, II of Greensboro, NC, Brenton L.
